Flying the trio by cargo plane to the Performing Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) in San Andreas, Calif., would take about 20 hours, compared with 72 hours by road in a truck, said Julie Woodyer, of Zoocheck, which represents PAWS in this endeavour.
Either way, the bill will be paid by Bob Barker, former host of The Price is Right.
“Obviously, having the elephants in the crates for a shorter period of time is in their best interest,” said Ms. Woodyer.
We agree Councillor Woodyer so why did you renege on air transport? The city of Toronto is disposing of the Toronto Zoo elephants free of charge, saving the city $600000 a year, and Zoocheck is paying the least possible amount to get the elephants to California exceeding all humane transportation regulations for animals. After fooling the city council into believing Bob Barker was going to fly them to California we find out that road transport was always their first option. Can everyone say BAMBOOZLE! Come on down!
